About the Arts
“Even kids who've had 20 minutes a day of music lessons…will, after a year, demonstrate changes in how their nervous system responds to sound, be it music or speech. But these benefits are specific to individuals who've actively engaged in musical training." -Nina Kraus, Ph.D.
Research suggests . . .
Braunreuther (2010) examined the relationship of arts study to academic achievement, academic growth, and attendance and behavior. He examined four years of data from sixth grade students in one school district. The researcher concluded that inconsistent results were caused by variables outside of the study. Arts students outperformed nonarts students. The most significant conclusion was that time spent studying the arts, instead of additional time in the tested content subjects, does not impede academic achievement in those tested content subjects.
