Gifted and Talented


GIFTED AND TALENTED at WOODLAWN HIGH SCHOOL

In August 2009, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved the opening of a second site for high school students receiving Gifted and Talented services at Woodlawn High School.   

 

Gifted services are currently available to eligible 9th and 11th grade students.  Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, these offerings will be extended to 12th grade students to include all grade levels.  Talented services in theater, music, and visual arts are available to all grade levels. 

 

Who can attend Woodlawn High School?

·        Students who live in the Woodlawn High School attendance zone. 

 

How can I determine if my address is in the Woodlawn High attendance zone?

·        This can be verified by visiting the EBRSchools.org home page and clicking on the yellow box identified as School and Bus Route Finder or by calling the EBRPSS Transportation Department at 226-3784.

Gifted Programs

To qualify for Gifted services:

1.        At your child’s current school, notify the guidance counselor in writing that you would like to have your child screened for gifted services.  Note:  Current private school students may contact EBRPSS Pupil Appraisal at 929-8600 for gifted screening.

2.      If your child passes the gifted screening, the counselor will refer your child to EBRPSS Pupil Appraisal for a full evaluation.

3.      Once your child qualifies for gifted services, placement will be determined by the Supervisor of Gifted and Talented Programs, Sherry Scardina.  Ms. Scardina can be reached at 929-8642 or email at sscardina@ebrschools.org.

4.     After placement at Woodlawn High School has been determined, an IEP will be written by the site coordinator, Naomi Hill, and the child will be placed in gifted classes.  Ms. Hill can be reached at 753-1200 or nhill@ebrschools.org.
