GREAT SCHOLARS AT WOODLAWN HIGH SCHOOL

In August 2009, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved the opening of a second site for high school students attending Great Scholars Academy classes at Woodlawn High School.   

 

Great Scholars Academy classes are currently available to eligible 9th and 11th grade students.  Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, these offerings will be extended to 12th grade students, and will include all grade levels.  Talented services in theater, music, and visual arts are available to all grade levels. 

 

Who can attend Woodlawn High School?

·        Students who live in the Woodlawn High School attendance zone. 

 

How can I determine if my address is in the Woodlawn High attendance zone?

·        This can be verified by visiting the EBRSchools.org home page and clicking on the yellow box identified as School and Bus Route Finder or by calling the EBRPSS Transportation Department at 226-3784.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Who qualifies for the Great Scholars Academy?

Students must meet one or more of the following:

 

     84 percentile or higher IQ composite score on district approved intelligence test.

OR

          National Percentile Rank of 84 or higher in two subject areas on a recent standardized test in Reading/ELA, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies administered within the last 12 months.

         

Students must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA to continue in the program.     

 

How to Apply?

1.        Complete a Great Scholars Academy application.

2.      Attach your child’s most recent standardized test scores showing the above criteria have been met and the most recent report card.

3.      Test scores from 7th grade can be submitted from now until spring testing (LEAP) scores have been released. Results from the 8th grade LEAP will be available in May before the end of the school year. 

4.     Return the application, test scores, and report card to the Gifted Site Coordinator, Naomi Hill, at Woodlawn High School or have your current school send it to Naomi Hill at Woodlawn High School via the interdepartmental mail (pony).

 

Note:  There are no deadlines for submitting an application.  Applications are reviewed year round.  There are no limits on the number of students admitted to the program; however, we would appreciate your application as soon as possible.
