As we come to the close of the 2008-2009 school year, it is incumbent on me to extend my heartfelt thanks' to our staff and school community as a whole; to our PTA, and to our community partners from First Presbyterian and University Presbyterian churches. We are most I want to thank our school community, our PTA. community partners from First Presbyterian and University Presbyterian Churches. We are most appreciative of the hard work and dedication which has ultimately contributed to a very successful school year. This has been a very fast-paced and most productive school year, which has yield many accomplishments, as have been highlighted below:
· We successfully implemented the new 5 year Strategic Plan developed by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System thanks to the dedication and commitment of our staff and school community.
· AdvancEd, the parent organization of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which is a nationally respected accrediting agency, announced that the East Baton Rouge Parish School System has met all of the requirements to earn District Accreditation.
· The EBR School Board has approved classroom and gym renovation projects for Buchanan Elementary which will begin this summer!!!
· Mrs. Ella Rein Wheeler, a community partner from First Presbyterian Church was one of eight amazing people honored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield Louisiana Foundation as an Angel Award Recipient. This organization recognize people who do extraordinary volunteer work on behalf of Louisiana children. Mrs. Wheeler was awarded $20,000 which she donated to Buchanan Elementary Technology Drive. Thanks to her generosity every teacher in grades 1st -5th have a Document Cameras (Elmo’s) and Projector for their classroom.
· We served over 60 students in our after school tutorial programs,
preparing them for greater success rate in the classroom.
· We served approximately 50 students in our after school child care program which incorporated the arts and academics.
· We have significantly increased the level of security of our campus by
installing new security cameras around the school.
It is with great pride that I share these accomplishments with you and invite each of you to get involved in our school, we look forward to working with you for the 2009-2010 school year.
