Five high schools in East Baton Rouge Parish School System will be holding graduations this evening at various locations around the area.
There will be about 55 graduates for Northdale Academy’s service at 6 p.m. at Florida Boulevard Baptist Church. Of those, the valedictorian, Brittany Allen, has overcome many obstacles in her pursuit of high grades and a diploma. Allen became the school’s No. 1 graduate despite a learning disability that causes exceptionality in learning Math, language, reading recall and more. In addition, Northdale’s salutatorian is Bobby Lands. Northdale is an alternative magnet school – the first of its kind in the state and used as a model. Broadmoor High School will have about 185 graduates at its 7 p.m. commencement scheduled for the Bethany World Prayer Center North. The school had about $317,204 in total scholarships offered to six graduates alone. Student Kristin Livingston has a combined total of $136,244 scholarship offerings from four universities and one sorority. Darrian Laquan has been offered an $80,000 scholarship from the U.S. Air Force (Community College of the Air Force/Air University). The school’s valedictorian is Paulina Thanh Truc Nguyen, who will be attending Louisiana State University (LSU) majoring in Chemistry or Bio-Chemistry. The salutatorian is 'Esther' Woong Kim. The Adult Education graduation is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the BREC Garden Center.
Scotlandville Magnet High School’s graduation is scheduled at 5 p.m. at Southern University (more than 200 graduates).
Baton Rouge Magnet High School held its graduation commencement Wednesday, May 12. It had about 285 graduates. Neal Wu was the valedictorian, and Darren Jindal was the salutatorian. Arlington Preparatory Academy also held graduation that day at the United Methodist Church.
