Woodlawn High Student Wins JROTC LET 2 Cadet of the Year Board - March 10, 2011
Cadet Sergeant First Class Matthew Chilastri of Woodlawn High School won the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) LET 2 Cadet of the Year Board Award held in mid-February at Broadmoor High School.  Chilastri demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the JROTC curriculum.  His character in both JROTC and in his academic achievement is evident by achieving a 4.5 GPA and being ranked first in a class of 353 in his sophomore class.

LET Cadets compete in the areas of curriculum knowledge, cumulative GPA, cadet resume and appearance, military courtesy and bearing.

The top LET 2 Cadets were (pictured, left to right):  Chilastri, Cadet Major Dominique Turner of Northeast High School – second place and Cadet Sergeant First Class Autumn Ford of Belaire High School – third place.

The Cadet of the Year Board includes four recognition events during the year, one for each of the four Leadership and Education and Training (LET) levels, from a first-year cadet to a fourth-year cadet.  Each School System high school’s JROTC team is encouraged to enter an outstanding cadet at each level.  Participants receive a certificate and medal, and the Board determines the overall LET level winners who receive a plaque.  The Board consists of five JROTC instructors.
