2004 National Achievement Scholarship Winners - 07/12/2004

Four students from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System have won National Achievement Scholarships.

They are Jessica C. from McKinley High School, and Leisa L., Erin S., and Yonas Y., from Baton Rouge Magnet High School.

These students are among the 800 nationwide who have won scholarships in the National Achievement Program. The $2500 scholarships may be used for undergraduate study at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice. The National Achievement Program is a privately financed academic competition established in 1964 specifically to honor scholastically talented Black American youth and increase their opportunities for higher education. The program is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.

The scholarships are funded by some 60 corporate organizations and professional associations, and by the NMSC.

In addition to the National Achievement Scholarships, ten other students from East Baton Rouge Parish Schools have won three other types of Merit Scholarship awards, College-sponsored scholarships, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and National Merit $2500 Scholarships.
