Business Leaders and EBR Schools Team Up for Spelling Bee Championship - May 10, 07
Northdale Academy and Baton Rouge High spellers square off on May 1, 2007.

The Academic Distinction Fund (ADF) and Kean Miller held the 6th Annual Executive Spelling April 24-31, 2007.   Twenty-Eight East Baton Rouge Parish Schools participated in this year’s bee.  This event is the only one of its kind which includes business and community leaders teaming up with students from EBR schools to compete for a spelling bee title.

The championship rounds were held on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.  The final two middle school teams were Westdale Middle School/Re/MAX First and Broadmoor Middle School/ Capital City Rotary.  The competition was tough, as both teams were well prepared.  The team from Westdale Middle spelled the winning word “pragmatic” after “origami” as misspelled.

The high school competition was equally fierce. The final two high school teams were Baton Rouge Magnet High/Lamar Advertising and Northdale Magnet Academy/Baton Rouge Business Report.  After an exciting 19 rounds and some difficult words, ADF declared a tie.

The winning middle school and the two high school teams were presented with trophies, medals and $500 checks for each of their schools.  All student finalists received medals.

Congratulations to all the students and businesses which participated in this event.
