List of Academically Unacceptable East Baton Rouge Public Schools Continues to Decline - 07/28/2010

According to a report released July 27 by the Louisiana Department of Education, East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) schools continue to improve.  Four EBRPSS schools have been taken out of the state’s Academically Unacceptable Schools (AUS) status.

Broadmoor Middle, Capitol Elementary, Park Elementary and Winbourne Elementary schools achieved performance scores of more than 60 each and are off the state’s AUS list.  Last year, six EBRPSS schools exited AUS status.  This two-year record of schools exiting the unacceptable status is rewarding to the students, teachers and principals who are working day in and day out to increase student achievement.

In addition, two EBRPSS schools passed the Subgroup Component for two years and are no longer in subgroup failure:  Broadmoor Middle and Northeast High schools.

EBRPSS schools entering AUS 1 status this year are Delmont Elementary and Mayfair Middle schools.  AUS 6 schools in the district include Banks Elementary, Capitol Middle and Istrouma High schools.

“Our school performance and student achievement continue to increase due to intense concentrations in the areas of Math and Reading, as well as programs that deal with the other side of student achievement – I CARE programs, Volunteers in Public Schools, tutoring and the anti-truancy efforts by the district, city and District Attorney’s Office,” said EBRPSS Superintendent John Dilworth.  “Our teachers are working diligently every day in every way possible, and we are starting to see progress.  With the piloting of a career technical center and year-round elementary schools this school year, we continue innovative approaches to education and instruction.  There is more hard work ahead, but we are on the right track.”
