Cadet Private First Class Dominique Sanders of Belaire High School won the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) LET 1 Cadet of the Year Board Award this month. Sanders demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the JROTC curriculum and possessed a high degree of motivation and self-discipline while participating on the Drill Team. She is a member of the Freshman Leadership Team. In addition, Sanders maintains a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

LET Cadets compete in the areas of curriculum knowledge, cumulative GPA, cadet resume and appearance, military courtesy and bearing.

Winners in the competition included (pictured, left to right): third place winner Cadet Corporal Katharine Hoffman of Tara High School, second place winner Cadet Private First Class Jeffrey Patterson of Northeast High School, Lt. Col. Shirley Sutton (president of the LET Board) and Sanders.

The Cadet of the Year Board includes four recognition events during the year, one for each of the four Leadership and Education and Training (LET) levels, from a first-year cadet to a fourth-year cadet. Each School System high school’s JROTC team is encouraged to enter an outstanding cadet at each level. Participants receive a certificate and medal, and the Board determines the overall LET level winners who receive a plaque. The Board consists of five JROTC instructors.
