EBR School Board Elects New President and Vice-President - Jan 18, 08

 

    East Baton Rouge Parish School Board members elected new board members to fill the offices of Board President and Vice-President. During the Regular School Board meeting on Thursday January 17, 2008, District 9 Board Member Gerald “Jerry” Arbour was elected to serve as Board President.
    Arbour was elected to the School Board in October 2005 and is a life long resident of Baton Rouge.  His School Board district includes a section of Mid-City, the Goodwood area and Jefferson Highway, down to the Mall of Louisiana.  He received a B.S. in Personnel Management from the E.J. Ourso School of Business at Louisiana State University and his Juris Doctorate from the LSU Law Center. Arbour has practiced law in Baton Rouge for thirty-two years. He also serves as the School Board representative to the East Baton Rouge Parish Planning and Zoning Commission.
    During the same meeting, District 5 Board Member Jonathan “Jay” Augustine was elected to serve as Board Vice-President.  Augustine is serving his first term on the School Board, elected in September 2006.  His district includes a section of North Baton Rouge, the Greenwell Springs Road area, the Garden District and the College Drive area.
    Augustine is a partner with the multi-state law firm Montgomery, Barnett, Brown, Read, Hammond & Mintz, LLP and an adjunct professor at Southern University Law Center.  He earned an economics degree from Howard University and served four years on active duty as a decorated infantry officer in the U.S. Army before earning his law degree from Tulane University School of Law. Augustine also serves as general counsel to The 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Black Chamber of Commerce.
