Students at Delmont and Ryan Elementary Schools received a “hands-on” lesson about how to live healthy.
“Smart Bodies” is an educational program designed to help prevent childhood obesity through classroom activities is teaching students about healthy eating habits and physical exercise.
The program coordinated by the LSU AgCenter and sponsored by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation.
The Body Walk is an exhibit which represents the human body. Students walk through it and explore models of various organs such as the brain, mouth, stomach, small intestine, heart, lungs, bones, muscles and skin and to learn about the effects of different foods on each organ.
In preparation to enter the Body Walk, students become part of the food pyramid. This activity gives them a better understanding of the effects of healthy and unhealthy foods on the body.
Students also participated in several exercise activities. In addition, they learned about good hygiene, such as how to properly brush and floss.
