BRCC Recognizes Placide for Growth in Dual Enrollment Program - January 22, 2009

Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) took a moment January 16 to honor East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) Superintendent Charlotte Placide during its annual High School Counselors Luncheon.

Recognizing Placide for her work partnering BRCC with EBRPSS on the dual enrollment program, BRCC’s plaque included the message “In recognition of your outstanding service, dedication and commitment to public education for the children of East Baton Rouge, we commend you.  All the best for you in retirement.”

In addition, East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden issued a proclamation that January 16 was “Charlotte Placide Day” in East Baton Rouge.

BRCC has set up a dual enrollment agreement with the School System, allowing eligible high school juniors and seniors to enroll in BRCC college courses while attending high school and earn college credit towards both a high school diploma and a college associate degree or certificate.  Placide has led the way for high growth in program participation – up 173 percent – and helping triple the number of course sections offered.  EBRPSS’s partnership now serves as a model for other parishes’ dual enrollment agreements with BRCC.

“We have been very fortunate to have a partner like Charlotte Placide and the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in our goal of increasing educational opportunities for Louisiana students,” said BRCC Chancellor Myrtle E. B. Dorsey.  “She shares our vision for building a stronger state through education, and we have been very grateful for her outstanding work with us toward that goal.”
