Neal Wu will be putting his computer programming skills to the test against similar students from across the world during the 20th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).
The Baton Rouge Magnet High School sophomore is a member of the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) team, which faces competitors from more than 70 countries during the global computer programming contest. The IOI will be held August 16-23 in Cairo, Egypt. Wu is the son of Mei Wu and Guorong Zhang.
Members of the USA team also are from Indiana and Virginia. They include junior David Benjamin of West Lafayette’s William Henry Harrison High School in Indiana and senior Jacob Steinhardt and junior Brian Hamrick of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Va.

The USA Computing Olympiad is directed by University of Wisconsin-Parkside emeritus professor Don Piele.
The 2008 USA team was selected from a field 15 high school students during the US Open, part of an eight-day training camp and competition recently held at UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. USACO, which is sponsored by USENIX, IBM and ITA Software, conducted six Web-based programming contests leading up to the Wisconsin camp.
