Last summer, Swarzenski spent a week at a Broadcast Journalism program for high school students at Georgetown University, and she has applied to a U.S. State Department-sponsored program to study abroad in Russia this summer. She also is applying for slots with summer programs at Stanford University and Brown University.
At school, Swarzenski is a member of the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Youth and Government, Interact Club and Junior Classical League (JCL). She is an officer of JCL, and was elected to be a State Board member for the 2012 Model United Nations. In addition, she has been a member of the school swim team since freshman year and has played the violin since she was 6 years old, performing with the Louisiana Youth Orchestras since second grade.
Swarzenski is interested in a career in either journalism or international relations. Her top two choices for college are Georgetown University and the University of Chicago. She is the daughter of Yihong and Chris Swarzenski.
