Pentagon Army Official Visits Glen Oaks High School JROTC Cadets - Nov 2, 07

Lieutenant General (LTG) James Campbell spent time with JROTC students at Glen Oaks High School on Nov. 2.  The Director of the Army Staff came from Washington D.C. with a message of leadership.
“What you are doing right now will make you a leader in life, “he told the cadets. “This is teaching you about citizenship.”
LTG Campbell also came with a special presentation for the Battalion Commander, Cadet/Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Marquinta C. Winding.
Cadet/LTC Winding, a senior at Glen Oaks High, was presented with the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross, the highest award given to a ROTC cadet.
LTG Campbell took the cadets on a journey of his career in the Army. He explained the tough decisions that he made to avoid pitfalls on his way to the top. The qualities of a leader were the focus of his message. LTG Campbell urged the cadets to take care of their reputations and remain humble.
“The reason leadership is so important to me, is that in my profession the stakes are the highest they can possibly be, and that is the lives of young men and women,” LTG Campbell said.
The message on respect and reputation hit home for one cadet.  Sophomore Jada Lewis says before joining JROTC she spent plenty of time in the front office, but adds, two years as a cadet have made her a better person.
“It has changed my attitude, now I know I’m not better than anybody, I can’t beat the world.” Lewis is now a 2nd Lieutenant and says her leadership skills are constantly improving.
