I CARE Holds End of Year Awards Ceremony - May 14, 2009



The I CARE Program provides prevention education to students in the areas of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, violence, crisis response and management.  So on May 11, the program recognized outstanding students and community volunteers who work tirelessly in these efforts.  At I CARE’s end-of-the-year awards ceremony held at Our Lady of Mercy Parish Activity Center, the Advisory Council recognized several individuals who have served the program.  They were:

  • Campus Crime Stoppers Art Contest – Overall Winner:  Quentin Brandon of Belaire High School (first photo, left, with art teacher Cynthia Oby)
  • Louisiana Association of Safe and Drug-Free Schools President’s Award – Audrey Smith, a Peer Helps teacher
  • Louisiana Association of Safe and Drug-Free Schools Vision Award – Junior League of Baton Rouge
  • Louisiana Association of Safe and Drug-Free Schools Anchor Award – Matt Williams of WAFB Channel 9 (second photo, left, with I CARE Prevention Specialist Gwynn Shamlin) and WAFB for outstanding community support of prevention programs
  • I CARE Sybil Witmer Award – Coach Wendell Evers (third photo, right, with Becky Young, director of the I CARE program) for his efforts in piloting the ASPIRE on-line tobacco prevention curricula
  • I CARE Appreciation Award for Support of the I CARE Prevention Program throughout her career with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System – Superintendent Charlotte Placide (fourth photo, right, with I CARE Quality Assurance Manager Floyd Sones)
