It’s the real thing! The national Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has named Devin Guillory, a McKinley High School student, one of the country’s most
outstanding high school seniors. Guillory has received a $20,000 National Coca-Cola Scholarship for college as a member of the 21st class of Coca-Cola Scholars who have demonstrated academic excellence and civic excellence in school and the community.
According to the Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Guillory was one of 252 students competing for 52 National Scholarships of $20,000 and 200 Regional Scholarships of $10,000 during the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend April 2-5 in Atlanta. The initial applicant pool totaled more than 74,000 students representing 23,000 high schools nationwide.
“Devin is part of a diverse group of extraordinary high school seniors who have shown a steadfast commitment to educational excellence, leadership and service to the school and community,” said Sandy Williams, chairman of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Board and president of Corinth Coca-Cola Bottling Works in Corinth, Miss.
During Scholars Weekend, the 2009 class interviewed with a National Selection Committee representing education, business, government and arts leaders from across the country. The competitors also participated in seminars and tours of the area.
