Missy Frye of Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School, Monica Malbrue of Park Forest Middle School and Tara Washington of Woodlawn Middle School all recently received their National Certified School Counselors (NCSC) certification.
Currently, 17.43 percent of the school counselors in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are nationally certified. The district’s counselors make up about 17 percent of certified counselors in the entire state of Louisiana.
To become a Nationally Certified School Counselor, an individual must hold a master’s degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field, have earned a school counselor credential issued by the State Department of Education, have three or more years of academic, post-graduate counseling supervision and work experience and achieve a passing score on the NCSC Examination. The NCSC certification runs five years with renewal after earning 100 continuing education units in counseling specific areas.
