Crestworth Middle School Literacy Night - Oct 18, 07
Parents learn about Internet safety

Crestworth Middle School hosted their Annual Family Literacy Night Thursday, October 19, 2007. Students and parents participated in five sessions of activities.

Special presentations were made by Saleria Blue, East Baton Rouge Parish School System Instructional Technology Facilitator, the Delmont Branch Public Library and Carolyn Gee, WXOK DJ. A book fair was also held in the school library.

Saleria Blue hosted a presentation on “Using the Internet: Keeping Your Child Safe.” She stressed the importance of monitoring children’s Internet usage. One point Ms. Blue made was to tell your children not to give any personal details to online mates.

The Delmont Branch Public Library read “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude,” by Kevin O’Malley, to parents and children. They also made a presentation of items available in the library.

Carolyn Gee, WXOK DJ and motivational speaker encouraged the audience by telling them, “you can be anything you want to be, and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” She encouraged everyone to read regularly, adding that in every career and in basic life, reading is required.

The ExxonMobil Community Outreach Team (MCOT) sponsored the event by providing snacks for everyone to enjoy.
