Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Beginning of New Partnerships

School system leaders joined staff of the Crestworth Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy as the school celebrated its first open house. On Saturday, August 11th, a ribbon cutting ceremony marked the opening of the newest magnet school in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

Crestworth Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy serves students in sixth through eighth grade who have extraordinary abilities in math and science. The school’s curriculum nurtures their interest in fields such as engineering and other careers that require extensive math and science knowledge. The school gets students prepared to enter Scotlandville Magnet High School of Excellence.

In the Spring, the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved the expansion of magnet and gifted programs. The additions included the Crestworth Pre-Engineering Magnet Academy. The school is located on Desoto Drive in North Baton Rouge. It has a separate facility and staff from the main Crestworth Middle School campus.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included the signing of partnership agreements by representatives from Southern University and other organizations. Among those who agreed to support the school’s efforts were Dr. C. Norman St. Amant, Southern University Admissions, Dr. Joseph Meyinsse, Southern University Math Department Chairperson, Leah Brown, Project Coordinator Center for Energy and Environmental Studies, Dr. Riad Yehya, Director Southern University Empowering Youth Choices, Dr. Diola Bagayoko, Timbuktu Acadamy. This group will serve as an advisory board to assist in meeting the needs of Crestworth Pre-Engineering Magnet students.
