| LSU Coach Miles Visits Delmont Elementary For Real Men Read

Several community leaders, politicians, athletes, law enforcement officers, broadcasting professionals, educators and business managers turned out Friday, May 7, at elementary schools across the school district to participate in the Real Men Read program.
For example, Louisiana State University football coach Les Miles (pictured reading) read to Delmont Elementary School students in Karen Jarrett’s kindergarten class. He read them a Spanish folklore book about a cockroach. Miles was joined by his daughter, Mayci Miles (left).
Last spring was the first year for the Real Men Read program, and at that time more than 300 local “real men” read to fifth-grade, at-risk boys who need strong male role models and MENtors. The pilot program started in Chicago Public Schools with a partnership by Scholastic Books, which originally provided the Dr. Seuss books for this local program, as well.
