East Baton Rouge Parish School System Helps Apartment Fire Victims - Nov 19, 07

Broadmoor High School was opened as a Red Cross shelter early Monday morning when a massive fire broke out at the Mirage Villa Apartment complex. About 50 people have registered at the Red Cross shelter. Mental health counselors are available to assist those in need.

In cooperation with the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, many EBR schools are designated as shelters in times of need. When Principal Daryl Glueck was contacted at 1:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19 about the possibility of using his school as a shelter for the displaced residents, he didn't think twice. "Anything that we can do to help in their time of need, we are here to assist."

Students of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System are not in school this week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Students return to school on Monday, November 26, 2007.
