| EBRPSS Student Fitness Team Wins State Championship

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) Fitness Team won the Louisiana Elementary Schools Fitness State Championship at Louisiana State University on Saturday, April 24. The EBRPSS team was one of 18 parish teams to compete for this honor. The student members of the team are: Eddie White (LaSalle Elementary), Malik Kelly (Shenandoah Elementary), Taiylar DeMoss (Audubon Elementary), Jamiee Williams (Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary), Joshua London (Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary), Cedric Williams (LaSalle Elementary) and Sophia Plain (Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary). The team set a new State Record for Total Team Points (2,726) while beating second place finisher Rapides Parish (2,496) by 230 points.
Top Individual honors went to White and DeMoss, and they were crowned Mr. and Miss Louisiana Fitness for 2010, respectively. Kelly and Williams finished in second place behind White and DeMoss. Events in the competition included the 50-Yard Dash, Curl-Ups, 600-Yard Run, Standing Long Jump, Pull-Ups and more. The EBRPSS Team coaches are Ken Jenkins (district director of Student Activities), Carol Revel (Westdale Heights Academic Magnet Elementary), Marc Luckett (LaSalle Elementary) and Courtney Comeaux (Shenandoah Elementary).
