Sporadic Cases of Flu Confirmed in Some Schools
- August 25, 2009

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System has received information that 13 schools in the district have students with confirmed cases of influenza. Those who have the flu saw a physician and are remaining home until symptoms subside. There is no need for panic, and all that can be done to maintain healthy, safe school sites is being done. District staff are being extra vigilant in cleaning these, and all, schools and are reminding students to wash their hands often and sneeze or cough into their arms. The district also is working closely with the Health Centers in Schools staff. At this time, there is no reason to close school. The district asks parents with students diagnosed with the flu or with flu-like symptoms to send the child to a physician, inform the student's school and remain home until they are better. Superintendent John Dilworth is committed to being vigilant in communicating with schools and the public about this issue in a timely manner, and he will keep them up to date on any changes in this matter.
