French Dignitaries Visit Students at South Boulevard Elementary - Jan 17, 08

South Boulevard Elementary French Immersion students welcomed a few French dignitaries to their campus on Wednesday, January 16.  French Senator Louis Duvenois was joined by Olivier Brochenin, Consulat General of France in New Orleans and Arnaud Sgambato, Attaché pédagogique.  Senator Duvenois’ duties involve representing all French citizens living and working outside of France.
The group visited all of the French Immersion classes at South Boulevard.  They answered questions from students about their jobs and France.  Senator Duvenois also asked a few questions to the students, particularly about their studies in French and their hopes for the future.  The entire visit was a French speaking activity. The visitors expressed their pleasure at the children’s language abilities.
Immersion education involves teaching core subject matter in another language besides English.  Students at the school study science, math, and social studies entirely in French or Spanish.  South Boulevard is the only public foreign language immersion school in East Baton Rouge Parish.
