Go, Team United Way! - November 3, 2010

The football-themed, district-wide 2010 United Way campaign, “Get off the Bench – Get into the Game!,” started with a kick off October 28 at The Dufrocq School.  The event included an exciting opening by the Tara High School band and cheerleaders while toy footballs, T-shirts and rally towels were thrown into the audience.

Southern University’s athletic director, Greg LeFleur, and baseball coach, Roger Cador, welcomed all the site coordinators (the quarterbacks for the campaign game) and gave them a pep talk about the important services United Way-funded agencies offer all the district’s students and their families.  Coordinators came dressed in football jerseys and armed with foam No. 1 fingers and pom-poms.  The pep rally ended with dancing and singing by the Tara High School show choir and football-themed giveaways.

The district had a great season during the 2009-2010 campaign but plans to do even better this year.  The district-wide goal for the 2010-2011 United Way campaign is $65,000 by November 12 -- just a few thousand more than last year.

The campaign ends Friday, November 12, so when a site coordinator huddles with employees and hands out the donation forms, employees should give – and give generously.  Schools should try to get the students involved in a fund-raising project, as well.

If you’d like more information about the agencies funded by the Capital Area United Way and the services they provide the community, there is a video, lists of agencies and other information at www.cauw.org

Everyone's help is needed to make a difference.  Don't sit on the sidelines ... get involved!  Your support is appreciated.  For more information, contact district campaign coordinator Sonya Gordon at sgordon@ebrschools.org.
