School science activity days generally are ones of activity and excitement. While that was certainly true of today’s Super Science Day at Greenville Elementary School, there were a few students playing ‘possum,’ too – with a real possum, that is.
Pre-kindergarteners Ryan Washington (pictured, left) and Travis Alexander (center) were two of a few special students who were able to visit close up with a baby possum, thanks to handler Deborah Harris of the Louisiana Wildlife Rehabilitators Association. She also introduced the children to Tallie, an older possum, as well as a baby duck and some birds as part of an on-site petting zoo.
Greenville Elementary partnered with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality to host Super Science Day, and other events included students making slime and homemade ice cream, viewing the constellations in the LASM Discovery Dome and enjoying demonstrations by the Scotlandville Middle Magnet School’s Robotics Team.
