Crestworth Elementary School held its first Family Health Fair, Thursday, December 6, 2007. Students, family members and the community participated in the health awareness campaign.
“Stressing the importance of health and wellness for individuals in the local community is extremely important. This has given parents and students the opportunity to really get involved in healthy activities. It’s always great to see families come together,” said Principal Brenda Wilkinson.
Deputy Perkins, DARE officer for Crestworth Elementary, visits the school weekly to teach kids to say no to drugs, violence and peer pressure. “I want to teach kids how to make healthy choices,” she said.
The purpose of the event was to increase health awareness by providing screenings, activities, materials and information. Participants received tips on making positive health behavior changes, and self-care practices. Children and adults also received immunizations.
