Second grade students at Westdale Heights Academic Magnet received a glimpse of their future on Thursday, November 29, 2007. Students participated in a “Job Day” program by wearing the attire of their choice professions. Students researched various types of careers and wrote reports about why they chose those careers. They also learned what training is needed to enter their chosen professions.
The students dressed the part of the jobs they chose and gave oral presentations to an audience that included students, parents and special guests. Some of the careers represented included, doctors, football players, police and fire officials and ballerinas.
Ms. Sheryl Singer, principal at Westdale Heights Academic Magnet, said both students and parents learned through the process. “It is exciting to see so many parents participating in this event.” She added, “Many of these students have started thinking about their careers, even at this age. That is amazing!”
