Volunteers Help Install Playground at Jefferson Terrace Elementary - July 15, 2008

They tightened bolts, dug holes and poured concrete at Jefferson Terrace Elementary School Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12, and now the school’s new playground is almost finished.  Louisiana State University (LSU) biological engineering students designed the new equipment, which includes swings that accommodate children’s wheelchairs.  The college students met with the elementary students to incorporate what those who used the site wanted in the playground design.

Volunteers from LSU, ARAMARK (pictured) and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana helped install the equipment and provide tents and refreshments.  In addition, school staff and the some students’ parents and grandparents lent a hand in the installation.  Other support came from First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge.  Jefferson Terrace Elementary has an enrollment of about 600.
