On Friday, May 7, the campus of Jefferson Terrace Elementary School resembled an ecological circus with displays that included baby alligators, garden materials, animal skulls, pelts, miniature horses, turtles, Native American artifacts and Cajun dancers. Students, staff and parents alike had a great time, and learned quite a bit about Science with hands-on activities at the school’s Discovery School Yard Day. Several students joined parent Charlotte Dean (right) at one tent to get close-up views of a variety of insects. There were numerous outdoor discovery stations that were supported by all subject areas and correlated with the Louisiana benchmark standards and grade-level expectations.
