| Jefferson Terrace Receives Honor from Partner, U.S. Coast Guard

Jefferson Terrace Elementary School was honored Wednesday afternoon, November 16, by the U.S. Coast Guard for its two-year partnership with the Louisianan Coast Guard. Followed by the student-led Pledge of Allegiance and a performance by the school choir, remarks were made by keynote speaker Capt. Paul Boinay of the Washington, D.C., U.S. Coast Guard Office. He is chief of the Office of Civil Rights Policy, Planning & Resources and officially sanctioned and honored the Partnership in Education between the two entities. Also speaking was Lt. Junior Grade Brian Dochtermann of the Marine Safety Unit in Baton Rouge for the Louisiana Coast Guard.
The partnership with the state Coast Guard has included reading partners for students through the Volunteers In Public Schools EveryBody Reads Program. Capt. Boinay, Principal Debra Adebutu, Lt. Commander Quincy Davis (commanding officer of the Marine Safety Unit of Baton Rouge) and Capt. Peter Gautier (commander of the New Orleans Sector of the U.S. Coast Guard) also participated in an awards presentation at the end of the event.
