The Latest Buzz: Spelling Bee Named Six Top Spellers - December 10, 2008

At the second annual Spelling Bee, a student from Buchanan Elementary School and one from Scotlandville Elementary School walked away as the top spellers in their categories among more than 100 entrants. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System event was held December 3 for second and third graders and December 4 for fourth and fifth graders.

Winners for the second and third grades (first photo, left to right) were:
First Place – Jay Lee, Buchanan Elementary
Second Place – Samantha Hall, Villa del Rey Elementary
Third Place – Max Williams, Westdale Heights Elementary

 

Winners for the fourth and fifth grades (second photo, left to right) were:
First Place – Laurent Randall of Scotlandville Elementary
Second Place -- Jordon Miller, Capitol Elementary
Third Place -- Jonathan Cangelosi, Westdale Heights Elementary

The System’s elementary associate superintendents, Paula Johnson and Paula Fabre, organized the event. Special thanks are extended to the judges: Richard Capps, administrative director of the School System’s Federal Programs; Kathi Gill and Joni Herrmann of Neighbors Federal Credit Union; Diane Helire, the System’s SES coordinator; Lee Dixon, director of the System’s ESS; and Sandra Horton, local No Child Left Behind director. Pronouncers included: Sylvia Winer, Angela Conant and Heather Werth.
