LaSalle Students Take Etiquette Lesson to Restaurant - December 20, 2010

Members of LaSalle Elementary School's fifth-grade Deltas Reaching and Exposing Achievers to More (DREAM) after-school program enjoyed dinner with staff and parents and an etiquette lesson the evening of December 9 at the Bonefish Grill.  The 35 students and 41 parents and community partners applied lessons on basic dining etiquette and social skills.

The DREAM program is open to all fifth-grade students at LaSalle Elementary School. An orientation was held in September, and parents signed students up if they were interested at that time.  Students must live up to program expectations in and out of the classroom in order to participate each month.  Positive behaviors are recognized and rewarded with leadership opportunities and real-life experiences.

Faculty and staff generously donated funds to pay for the students' meals, and Bonefish Grill offered parents and guests a discounted menu.

DREAM is sponsored by the Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to prepare fifth-grade students for educational, social and economic achievement.  They provide tools for successful transitions into higher education and careers.  Meetings are held once a month after school.
