McKinley High’s Automotive Program Receives National Certification - January 29, 2009

The automotive training program at McKinley High School recently received certification by both the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). McKinley High School’s Automotive Program has been certified in the following areas: Brakes, Steering and Suspension, Electrical and Engine Performance.

To achieve this coveted recognition, the school’s program underwent rigorous evaluation by the NATEF, which uses nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas like Instruction, Facilities and Equipment. ASE is a national non-profit organization that tests and certifies high school repair technicians and certifies automotive training programs.

“This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents,” said Donald Seyfer, NATEF’s chairman. “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that McKinley High School’s graduates will be employable, entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by McKinley High School, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the workforce.”

Kevin McCants, the school’s automotive instructor, agreed, citing the months of work done with NATEF for certification.  “We have worked closely with NATEF to make certain that our program would meet strict industry standards, and now we are delighted to join the ranks of the ASE certified training programs,” McCants said. “Students will be assured of a quality education, and shop owners will be assured of getting quality job applicants.”  For more information, call McCants at McKinley High School, (225) 344-7696.
