Schools Square Off In First Academic Competition At McKinley Middle School - March 30, 2009

Several East Baton Rouge Parish School System middle schools were involved in the first-ever Annual Academic Competition sponsored by McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School on March 21.  About 200 students in the competition represented the many of the district’s middle schools, including:  McKinley, Park Forest, Westdale, Woodlawn, Scotlandville, Broadmoor and Sherwood.  The schools competed in rounds focusing on various subjects, including a quiz bowl, chess, debate, spelling bee and math. 

McKinley Middle School placed first, followed by Woodlawn and Westdale middle schools, respectively.   Among the students on McKinley Middle Schools team were (pictured, left to right):  Mecca Cortez, Tony Mitchell and Jahi Mackey.  The competition results included:
