People are singing the praises of three East Baton Rouge Parish School System music teachers who hit the right note when it comes to teaching. They recently were named the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra’s (BRSO) Music Teachers of the Year 2008-2009.
The BRSO winners included:
Dana Lux of Tara High School – High School Music Teacher of the Year
Emily DeFoe of Sherwood Middle Magnet School – Middle School Music Teacher of the Year
Deborah Russell of Shenandoah Elementary School – Elementary School Music Teacher of the Year
The award recognizes outstanding Baton Rouge area grades K-12 music instructors who excel in teaching music and successfully integrate music with the core academic curriculum either alone or in collaboration with a general classroom teacher.
The winners were recognized at the Entergy Masterworks Concert, where they also received a school banner and a commemorative plaque. In addition, they were awarded season tickets for BRSO’s performances and will be acknowledged in one of its upcoming programs. The winners enjoyed a private dinner with BRSO’s conductor, Maestro Timothy Muffit, and the BRSO Board of Directors.
