New Superintendent Listens to Community - July 23, 2009

Students, parents and community members came out in force in early July to meet East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s new superintendent, John Dilworth.

At the community forums, Dilworth listened to comments and concerns regarding the School System and education voiced by audience members.  He asked those in attendance for suggestions on what they would like changed and what things the district is doing well.

Dilworth also shared stories about his upbringing and educational background, as well as his philosophy regarding education. He said he supports strong leaders in schools.  He promises to work towards improving customer service and communicating with parents, who he wants to feel welcome in the schools. In addition, he reiterated his pledge to work closely with the business community and to encourage more mentorship opportunities between community members and students in the School System.

The superintendent will share information gathered during these forums with School System staff in the coming weeks and at the soon-to-be scheduled School Board retreat. He plans to address issues that were raised at the forums at that time.

Dilworth has promised he will hold more forums throughout the school year.
