Baton Rouge, La. – On Thursday, January 25, 2007, faculty, staff, students and members of the community celebrated the signing of partnership agreements between Scotlandville Magnet High School and six community businesses and organizations.
The school partners – Southern University, the ExxonMobil Ambassador Team, the Department of Public Works, Micro Enterprise Development Alliance of Louisiana (MEDAL), High School for the Engineering Professions Advisory Council and Scotlandville Hornets Alumni Association will assist in boosting student achievement and academic success by entering into a working partnership with Scotlandville Magnet High School.
The Department of Public Works will provide job training and after school internship opportunities, while ExxonMobil Ambassadors will provide tutoring for ACT/SAT mentoring to the robotics team and field trips for the engineering students. The High School for the Engineering Professions Advisory Council and the Scotlandville Hornets Alumni Association will also offer job shadowing, mentoring, scholarships and
ACT/SAT tutoring to the engineering students and other students. Southern University will provide dual enrollment and concurrent courses for all students at Scotlandville Magnet High School. Finally, MEDAL will operate in an advisory capacity to review student loan applications and business plans to assist students with getting their businesses started.
