| Park Forest Ele. Students March Through Vocabulary in Parade

Park Forest Elementary School has found a fun, interactive way to learn vocabulary – hold a Vocabulary Parade. That’s just what staff and students did Friday, February 19, at the school. “The parade is an attempt to increase students’ vocabulary,” said Principal Mary Jane Clark. “When students choose a word, depict it in costume or on a poster, define the word and use it in a sentence, they essentially ‘own’ that word.”
Some classes chose themes, such as using all mathematical terms or compound words. Others, like Pre-K students, wore the words and then held hands to complete a compound word. Those students included (pictured, left to right – back row) Ja'Miya Cosey, Erick Puente, Lisseth Santos, (front row) Junior Tirado-Hernandez, Maya Martin, and Adantae Henry.
In addition to Park Forest Elementary student participation, the parade included Park Forest Middle School’s band and a local fire truck. |
