LSU Women's Basketball Head Coach Pokey Chatman speaks to Prescott Middle School students
Pokey Chatman Encourages Prescott Middle School Students to Find Their Passion - Feb 21, 07

Baton Rouge, LA- There was no talk of jump shots or defense from LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Pokey Chatman at Prescott Middle School. Students listened intently as Coach Chatman urged them to find their passion early in life. Coach Chatman’s speech was among the many activities held during Prescott Middle School’s Brotherhood/Sisterhood Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, February 21st.

Chatman encouraged students to dream big and aim for high standards. “You may ask yourself why me? I say the answer is why not!” Chatman said.  She reminded the group that success is not just for a few, but anyone can exceed their goals with hard work, patience and diligence.  The coach’s words tipped off a series of skits and songs performed by students.  The activities honored the accomplishments of African-Americans in recognition of Black History Month.

The Brotherhood/Sisterhood award recognizes outstanding students who have worked to foster understanding and respect among classmates of all backgrounds.  Several schools in EBR hold Brotherhood/Sisterhood award ceremonies.
