Baton Rouge Police Department officers and employees formed a mini Christmas parade, complete with Santa, elves and mounted horse and motorcycle patrols, and delivered donated presents to Polk Elementary School students on Friday, December 16. Participants, many of whom followed the sled of presents (actually an armored SWAT vehicle), participated in a walking procession from the Highland Road Second District Precinct to the school. It was led by Police Chief Dewayne White. Police Department employees delivered about 200 gifts for students. Cpl. Michael Doerfler, who rode his police horse in the parade (back, at left), watched over employee elves like Chief White’s secretary, Michelle Iverson (left), employee Shannon Landry (right) and Jennifer Newman (center, in costume), the daughter of Lt. Kevin Newman, who played Santa Claus at the event. All gifts were purchased with donations made by employees.
