Making EBR Schools Even Safer - July 23, 2009

Bullies are becoming a thing of the past due to keen-eyed principals and teachers in our public schools.  Principals are taking strong and positive action in making East Baton Rouge Parish public schools safer than ever, thanks in part to workshops like today’s (July 23) Promoting Safe and Caring Schools.

This proactive planning session is sponsored by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s Safety Committee to help principals do an even better job at identifying and managing students and adults prone to aggressive behavior and responding to serious threats using the latest educational research.  In addition, the event will cover bully prevention and cyber bullying and how staff can work with parents to resolve an issue.

Event speakers are from one of the pre-eminent school safety organizations in the country – Edu-Safe (www.edu-safe.org), which lists among its clients school systems in Philadelphia, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Richmond as well as organizations like the National PTA, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and Southwest Missouri State University.

Edu-Safe speakers include Dennis Lewis, the co-author of “Safety Tips for Principals” and a former director of School Public Safety for a large urban/suburban school district, and Judy Brunner, a 25-year veteran of teaching and an adjunct professor at Missouri State University on a variety of educational and safety topics.
