Several Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) units from East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) participated in the recent Massing of the Colors sponsored by the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW).  The annual event, held at Parkview Baptist High School, honored local veterans of our Armed Forces and involved many other local JROTC units and veterans organizations.

EBRPSS color guards represented Belaire, Broadmoor, Glen Oaks, Robert E. Lee, Scotlandville Magnet, Tara and Woodlawn high schools.  Many of the schools also held their own Veteran’s Day activities.

The Massing of the Colors is dedicated to all veterans who have served the United States.  About 50 veterans were in attendance for the event, which included speaker Maj. Gen. Hunt Downer of the Louisiana Army National Guard.  EBRPSS traditionally provides the Commander of Troops to oversee all the color guards from the stage. This year, it was Cadet LTC Laterial D. Sawyer of Scotlandville Magnet High School.  He earned the honor after winning the EBRPSS JROTC title of LET 4 Cadet of the Year last month.

In addition, the three best performing school color guards were recognized with certificates.  The No. 1 color guard receives a plaque.  Scotlandville Magnet High School came in third place.
