Scotlandville High Student Team Wins First at Shell STEM Showdown - May 20, 2011

wo Scotlandville Magnet High School teams totaling 17 students, four parents and six teachers participated in the May 14 Shell STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Showdown at the University of New Orleans, and one team walked away with first place.  Each team member on the first-place team won a Netbook computer. 

The school also won the grand prize trophy and $5,000 to start a STEM Club in partnership with Southern University students.

The Scotlandville High team’s winning project was to build a house of paper that would house five team members, and their work was done in partnership with Southern University Engineering students.  The University team won $1,200 in scholarships and an all-expense-paid trip to a national conference in Orlando.

The winning high school student team members are:  Shalyric Self, Dantrey Johnson, Trevis Bowie, Shaughnessy Johnson, De’Marcus Johnson, Anjelica Thomas, Leila Butler,and Trenton Richardson.
