Scotlandville Middle, Big Buddy Hold First Literacy Night - December 15, 2011

In early December, Scotlandville Middle Pre-Engineering Academy and the Big Buddy Program teamed up for the school’s First Annual Literacy Night.  Other partners, including ExxonMobil and Project Lead The Way, also hosted the event, which was open to all students and their families.  In addition, the T-Steps Steppers performed prior to a literacy rotation, hands-on event.

Representatives also were on hand with C-SPAN’s 2011 Cities Local Content Vehicles (LCV) Cities Tour, which visited East Baton Rouge schools recently.  Using Ford Transit Connect vehicles, the program tours city schools across the nation and records unique public affairs programming for its Book TV (C-SPAN2) and American History TV (C-SPAN3) broadcast content.

Some of the organizers and presenters of the evening included (pictured, left to right):  Gaylynne Mack, executive director of the local Big Buddy Program; Kathie Johnson, Magnet coordinator for the school; Edwin Chastang, school principal; Deborah Lamb of C-SPAN; and Nakeyvia Anthony, director of Afterschool Programs for the Big Buddy Program.
