Baton Rouge, LA- 30 East Baton Rouge Parish Schools received monetary awards for meeting or surpassing their student academic growth target for the 2005-2006 school year.  The K-12 Accountability Awards are being distributed by the State Department of Education to recognized schools this month.

 The State Department of Education gives a minimum $5,000 award to schools that achieved Exemplary Academic Growth. These schools met or exceeded their growth targets in all student subgroups and are not in any level of school improvement.  The second award is for schools that achieved Recognized Academic Growth.  These schools receive a minimum $2,500 award for meeting or exceeding growth targets regardless of subgroup growth or school improvement status. The amount of the award for each school is determined by student population.

East Baton Rouge Parish Schools received a total of $303,548 dollars for the schools identified as reaching their growth targets.  Each school principal will decide how the money will be the spent, however the rules of the grant do not allow the funds to be used for salaries or stipends.

The EBR schools which received rewards for showing Exemplary Academic Growth are Baton Rouge Visual and Performing Arts Center, Belfair Montessori School, Broadmoor Elementary School, Central Middle School, Children’s Charter School, Forest Heights Elementary School, McKinley Middle School, Melrose Elementary School, Northeast Elementary School, Parkview Elementary School, Progress Elementary School, Riveroaks Elementary School, Sherwood Middle School, South Boulevard Extended Day School, Tanglewood Elementary School, Wedgewood Elementary School, Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School, and Wildwood Elementary School.

The following EBR schools received rewards for showing Recognized Academic Growth: Brookstown Elementary School, Community School for Apprenticeship Learning, Crestworth Elementary School, Dufrocq Montessori School, Glasgow Middle School, Glen Oaks Park Elementary School, Jefferson Terrace Elementary School, Prescott Middle School, Ryan Elementary School, University Terrace Elementary School, Westminster Elementary School, and Winbourne Elementary School.

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board will honor the principals of these schools at its next Regular Board Meeting, April 19.
