St. George Firefighters Demonstrate Automobile Accident Rescues to Woodlawn High School Students - April 4, 2011

Woodlawn High School students got to witness first-hand how victims of car accidents are rescued from a mangled wreck – without anyone being in danger.  The March 28 event was a controlled and safe demonstration by St. George Fire Department members at the school.

With a firefighter riding shotgun, select students volunteered to sit in the driver’s seat of a “wrecked” car while firefighters, such as (left to right) Lt. Allen Blanchard, Capt. Robbie Boe and Capt. Robert Balser, demonstrated the use of high-tech equipment to remove stuck car doors and rescue accident victims from damaged vehicles that are involved in accidents.

A designated safety zone was established for those watching the demonstrations.  Members of the Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services (EMS) also were on hand.
