East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s 2011 Spring Test Score Results Show Continued Growth - May 24, 2011

State LEAP, GEE and iLEAP test results released today by the Louisiana Department of Education show continued growth for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS).

District highlights include:

• EBRPSS narrowed the gap for fourth-grade students meeting promotional standards (Approaching Basic/Basic). The passing rates increased by 7 percentage points.
• Fourth-grade students’ proficiency scores increased in all subjects.
• The School System scores improved or stayed the same in 12 out of 16 iLEAP assessment categories.
• Middle schools improved or stayed the same in 11 out of 12 subject areas.
• EBRPSS increased the number of students scoring at the advanced level in three of four content areas on the GEE test. Eleven percent of students scored at the advanced level in GEE Math.

“I am encouraged by the growth we see in the district, particularly at the 4th grade level,” said School Superintendent John Dilworth.   “We have already begun a school-by-school analysis using these test results to give us a better understanding of where we increased and what areas we need to work on for the next school year.”

Dilworth continued, “Increases in student achievement do not happen without hard work and commitment by school staff, students and District employees. We begin working on improving student achievement well before the beginning of a new school year. In fact, while this is the last day of the 2010 – 2011 School Year for our students, we already are laying the foundation for the work that needs to be carried out next school year to continue this increase.  I want to thank our students, parents, teachers and administrators for all of their hard work. There is still much work that we need to do as we move forward.”
